Meedin in Ecopolitan

Our story about fair fashion

We are featured in the Ecopolitan issue. The magazine spoke with Henk Troost and Klaas Veijer, founders of Meedin, about how we produce our merino wool sweaters in Staphorst. A conversation about why we want to do things differently, and how we stay true to our core values.

The Background

The fashion industry has faced the same problems for years: long workdays, low wages, and mountains of waste. For Klaas Veijer, this was not an abstract concept. His family business in Staphorst once made sweaters for the entire region, with up to 60 employees at its peak. When production moved abroad, that heritage vanished. One summer evening in 2021, Klaas and Henk had the idea to bring production back home.

Seamless Knitting in Staphorst

Three years later, we have our sweater. Our seamless knit sweaters are made using a 3D knitting method that maximizes every yard of yarn and prevents waste during production. According to the magazine, this results in 20% less waste. No shoulder seams or side seams, no scratchy neck tag. The result is a sweater that is more comfortable, more durable, and longer-lasting. Instead of a scratchy neck tag, our sweaters feature a subtle logo on the left sleeve. A monkey, as a playful nod: the fashion industry doesn’t have to be monkey business.

Why Merino Wool from Australia

We deliberately work with fine merino wool from Australia, because European wool does not have the fineness we need for optimal wearing comfort. The welfare of the sheep is our top priority here. Wool naturally regulates your body temperature: warm in cold conditions, cool in heat. That’s why our sweaters can be worn year-round.

Fair Pricing, No Discounts

We don’t engage in inflated margins or shady discount promotions. What you pay is a fair price for a product made responsibly. Our supply chain remains short: everything is produced in Staphorst, on our own knitting machines, with people we know.

What’s Next

In the interview, we also look ahead. We are developing a V-neck and a short-sleeve style, since there is high demand for both. Our sweaters are available online via meedin.nl and at our retail locations across the Netherlands. We will keep growing, but on our own terms: without overproduction, and without unnecessary fashion collections.
