At the office: wear the sweater over a blue-and-white striped shirt with stone-grey trousers and cognac loafers. Light, put-together and not too formal.

Smart casual: white chinos with light brown suede loafers create a tonal summer look that suits a terrace or a lunch.

With jeans: faded light-blue jeans and white canvas sneakers keep it relaxed and fresh.

Colours that work: white, light blue, navy, olive green and terracotta. For cooler days, layer a khaki trench coat or an unlined mid-blue blazer over the top.

To make sure your sweater lasts a long time, wash it on a wool programme at 30 degrees Celsius. Turn the sweater inside out beforehand. Use a wool-friendly detergent, without fabric softener. After washing, reshape the sweater while it is still wet and let it dry flat. Do not put it in the dryer.
